HEALTH MATTERS
Taking my four year old little guy for a walk at Pipers Lagoon is always an adventure. Each outing is a serious exploration
of the surroundings. Everything, absolutely everything, is new and amazing to him.
He runs around and gets lost in contemplation of a blade of grass, a piece of bark, even a flower…often just stopping,
entranced in wonder at a falling leaf catching the sunlight.
Very quickly, I start to slow down and to see the world in the same way…through his eyes. And here’s the thing – it really is
a wonderful way to see the world. The world becomes new and rich again; beauty is everywhere and every sight is fascinating.
Amazingly I even find that my own normal aches and pains from yesterday disappear quickly.
Now there’s a valuable lesson here.
When you take time to stop and slow down and ‘just be’ – in the “NOW” – you give your body and mind a chance to rest and to restore its balance. We often don’t take time to do this in our busy schedule.
… Now just add some deep breathing and you can put yourself – instantly – into a restorative mode. It’s like a magic switch that sends a message right through your entire mind and your muscles …and that message is to “RELAX”.
(I can show you how to deep breath properly…Ask me.)
P.S.
Here’s the rest of the story. My little guy is not my son. It could be, but my little guy is my amazing four year old dog
Kodi....but the message and lesson are still the same.
